The Story Behind Autisymbols: The Language of the Unspoken

At first glance, the design is a mesmerizing, layered vortex of intricate characters—a syntax that feels familiar yet remains undeniably alien. It draws the eye in with the promise of a message, hinting at a logic just out of reach. But the design’s true power lies not in what it says, but in the silence it creates when you try to read it.

Communication is often assumed to be a seamless exchange, but for the neurodivergent mind, it can feel like trying to tune into a radio station that is slightly off-frequency.

Autisymbols visualizes this disconnect. The symbols are a fictional, encrypted typeface, intentionally unreadable to the observer. They represent the static that interferes with connection: the unspoken social rules, the hidden subtext, and the non-verbal cues that the world expects everyone to intuitively understand.

The dense, overlapping arrangement of the glyphs mirrors the cognitive load of "decoding" everyday interactions. It illustrates the sheer effort involved in masking—the exhausting process of translating one’s authentic self into a language the rest of the world accepts. It captures the moment where sensory overload meets social demand, resulting in a feeling of being "lost in translation" even while standing right in front of someone.

By presenting a language that cannot be read, this typeface flips the script. It places the neurotypical viewer in the position of the outsider, briefly experiencing the confusion of navigating a world built on a different communication standard.
